Quilt Size:

The finished quilt must be no smaller than 24in x 40in (60cm x 100cm) and no larger than 60in (150cm) square. The quilts illustration to the story is part of the judging criteria.

Story Requirements:

A story must be attached to your quilt and will be part of the judging criteria. The story must contain no less than 250 words and no more than 2500 words.

30th November 2024. “Important Dates” including notification of finalists, announcement of winners and the Blessington Education Summit will be advised by the entry date.

COMPETITION RULES

  • Blessington Quilting Challenge open to ALL Australian and New Zealand quilters.
  • All entries must be an original design. If inspiration has be drawn from another artwork, such as a photograph the source must be acknowledged on the entry form.
  • Entries may not have been previously been awarded a monetary prize of $500 or more, or a position in any other quilt competition for the same quilt being entered in the BQC.
  • Any techniques can be used including: piecing, applique, embroidery, whole cloth and/or manipulated fabric etc, as long as the final quilt consists of three (3) layers (top, batting/wadding, backing), secured by hand or machine quilting stitches and finished with binding.
  • The finished quilt be no smaller than 24in x 40in (60cm x 100cm) and no larger than 60in (150cm) square. Selected finalists must attach a 4 inch strip of Velcro hook in each corner of their quilt for exhibition purposes.
  • A label with the entrant’s name, address, telephone number and email must be securely sewn to the back of the quilt, in the bottom right hand corner.
  • Entries to be submitted online via the Blessington website www.blessington.com.au/bqc/ and received no later than November 30, 2024.
  • Entrants may submit up to four high resolution (between 2MB and 4MB each) jpgs for each quilt. One must show a full view of the quilt and the others may be close-up views showing the details of the work. All images must be submitted electronically and be identified by surname and quilt title. Images submitted will be used (in conjunction with the quilt story) by the judges for selection and publicity and promotion and all other purposes as Blessington Pty Ltd see fit in their absolute discretion.
  • A panel of judges will select the finalist’s quilts to be exhibited at the Blessington Education Summit 2025 (TBA). The judges’ decision is final. Blessington Pty Ltd reserves the right to refuse any work that doesn’t match the images submitted for selection. The finalist quilts will be photographed for publicity and promotional purposes and on sending your entry you automatically agree to the quilts being used for this purpose.
  • Delivery/postage instructions will be provided with notification of acceptance. DO NOT SEND QUILTS PRIOR TO NOTIFICATION THAT YOU HAVE BEEN A SELECTED AS A FINALIST.
  • Blessington Pty Ltd employees, their family members and any ambassadors/associates of Blessington Pty Ltd are not eligible to enter.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. Information on how to enter forms part of the terms of entry. Entry into the competition is deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions.
  2. The Competition will be judged and chance plays no part in determining the winners.
  3. Entry is open to residents of Australia and New Zealand only. However, employees and their immediate families of Blessington Pty Ltd, and their associated ambassadors, agencies (which includes dealer principals but not their staff.) and companies connected with this competition are not eligible to enter.
  4. To enter participants must create a quilt according to the competition rules and complete an on-line entry form.
  5. Blessington Pty Ltd reserves the right to refuse any work that doesn’t match the images submitted for selection.
  6. Entrants in the competition may enter multiple times.
  7. Blessington Pty Ltd reserves the right to request winners to provide proof of identity; proof of residency at the nominated prize delivery address and/or proof of entry validity in order to claim a prize. Proof of identification, residency and entry considered suitable for verification is at the discretion of the Blessington Pty Ltd. In the event that a winner cannot provide suitable proof, the winner will forfeit the prize in whole and no substitute will be offered.
  8. Blessington Pty Ltd reserves the right to verify the validity of entries and to disqualify any entry which, in the opinion of Blessington Pty Ltd, includes objectionable content, profanity, potentially insulting, inflammatory or defamatory statements, disqualify any entrant who tampers with the entry process, who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these terms and conditions of entry or who has, in the opinion of Blessington Pty Ltd, engaged in conduct in entering the promotion which is fraudulent, misleading, deceptive or generally damaging to the goodwill or reputation of the promotion and/or the Blessington Pty Ltd. Blessington Pty Ltd reserves the right to disqualify a winner if they become aware that the winner and/or the winner’s entry is of a type described in this clause.
  9. Blessington Pty Ltd accepts no responsibility for any late, lost or misdirected entries including delays in the posting on-line entries due to technical disruptions, network congestion or for any other reason.
  10. There will be five (5) prize winners who will win one of the following prizes: – Total prize value $25,000; with the first prize including a trip for two to Houston.
  11. In consideration for Blessington Pty Ltd awarding the prize to the winner, the winner hereby permits the winner’s words, as recorded, photographed or filmed during the winner’s participation in the prize to appear in connection with Blessington Pty Ltd or the advertising or marketing thereof, in any media whatsoever throughout the world and the winner will not be entitled to any fee for such use.
  12. In the event that for any reason whatsoever a winner does not take an element of the prize at the time stipulated by Blessington Pty Ltd that element of the prize will be forfeited by the winner and cash will not be awarded in lieu of that element of the prize.
  13. Each valid entry will be judged by a panel of judges and finalists will be selected for exhibition at the Blessington Education Summit 2025 (TBA). The judges will select the winning entry, based on the most creative and imaginative interpretation of the theme “Resilience” as well as the accompanying story of the quilt.
  14. All selected finalist’s quilts will need to be posted to Blessington Pty Ltd, when Blessington advises to do so.  A Self Addressed pre-paid parcel bag must be included so Blessington Pty Ltd are able to return quilts.
  15. Should an entrant’s contact details change during the promotional period, it is the entrant’s responsibility to notify Blessington Pty Ltd accordingly. A request to access or modify any information provided in an entry should be directed to the Marketing Co-ordinator at Blessington Pty Ltd.
  16. Blessington Pty Ltd decision is final and the promoter will not enter into correspondence regarding the Competition result or winning entries.
  17. It is a condition of accepting the prize that the winner must comply with all the conditions of use of the prize and the prize supplier’s requirements.
  18. If the first prize winner is under the age of 18, then the second ticket must be used for an accompanying adult.
  19. In the case of the intervention of any outside act, agent or event which prevents or significantly hinders Blessington Pty Ltd ability to proceed with the competition on the dates and in the manner described in these terms and conditions, including but not limited to vandalism, power failures, tempests, natural disasters, acts of God, civil unrest, strike, war, act of terrorism, Blessington Pty Ltd may in its absolute discretion cancel the competition and recommence it from the start on the same conditions, subject to any directions given under State Regulation.
  20. Blessington Pty Ltd shall not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered (including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss) or for any personal injury suffered or sustained in connection with any prize/s except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law. Blessington Pty Ltd is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, either caused by the phone user or for any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilised in this competition, or for any technical error, or any combination thereof that may occur in the course of the administration of this competition including any omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line or telephone, mobile or satellite network failure, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to or alteration of entries.
  21. Blessington Pty Ltd reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual whom Blessington has reason to believe has breached any of these conditions, or engaged in any unlawful or other improper misconduct calculated to jeopardise the fair and proper conduct of the promotion. Blessington Pty Ltd legal rights to recover damages or other compensation from such an offender are reserved.
  22. Blessington Pty Ltd and their associated agencies and companies assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to, or alteration of entries, and reserves the right to take any action that may be available.
  23. If for any reason this competition is not capable of running as planned, including due to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any causes beyond the control of Blessington which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or integrity or proper conduct of this promotion, Blessington reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, take any action that may be available, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the competition, subject to any direction given under State Regulation.
  24. All on-line entries become the property of Blessington Pty Ltd. Blessington Pty Ltd collects personal information about you to enable you to participate in this competition. Information supplied when lodging your entry will be used by Blessington Pty Ltd to contact you in the event your entry is selected as a finalist or prize winner. No further use of this information will be made without prior consent.
